ROUTES
GUILDFORD TO NEWHAVEN 85KM / 286M
Our journey begins with the flattest stage of the ride, offering a scenic and enjoyable start. A significant portion of the route follows the Downs Link, a stunning trail of disused railway lines winding through forests, grasslands, and open fields. Here you'll experience ever-changing landscapes and abundant wildlife along the way.
We leave the Downs Link at Shoreham and continue along the coast, enjoying a beautiful seafront ride into Brighton, before heading to our final stop at Newhaven to catch the ferry to Dieppe. Dinner is served onboard, and we arrive in Dieppe around 22:00, followed by a short cycle to the hotel for a well-earned rest.
DIEPPE TO ROUEN 79KM / 837M
After breakfast at the hotel we begin the day with a relaxed start from Dieppe, setting off towards Rouen at your own pace - whether you prefer a steady ride or a more leisurely approach. Along the way, we'll highlight some great coffee and lunch stops to refuel and take in the surroundings.
In the evening, we gather for dinner together, sharing stories from the day's ride before resting up for the next stage of the journey.
ROUEN TO VERNON 86KM / 405M
After a relaxed breakfast, we set off towards the small town of Vernon. This stage is yours to enjoy at your own pace, whether you want to take it easy or push a little harder. Along the way, soak in the beautiful countryside and historic surroundings and enjoy the ride.
In the evening, we'll come together for dinner at the hotel, sharing experiences from the day before resting up for the final push into Paris.
VERNON TO PARIS 115KM / 858M
The final stretch into Paris is an unforgettable ride. A flat roll-out along the Seine to ease the legs off before a string of brutal climbs and adrenaline fuelled descents. Open meadows, meander down single track, cruises along historical towpaths and rolls over leafy woodland before suddenly opening up to a view of the Eiffel Tower. Here we'll re-group into small groups and ride into Paris together with the final 10km along a protected cycle lane all the way to the finish - a moment to celebrate your incredible achievement!
Our hotel is in the Montmarte area of Paris, a charming and historic district known for its artistic heritage, village atmosphere, and iconic Sacré-Cœur Basilica, offering breaktaking views of the city from its hilltop location. That evening we'll mark the occasion with dinner and some well deserved celebrations.
FAQ
WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN SEPTEMBER?
The weather in southern England and northern France is generally mild and pleasant. Some rainfall is usual but not heavy. Average temperatures vary from 9ºC to 22ºC.
DO WE RIDE AS A GROUP OR CAN I RIDE ON MY OWN?
There are no formal groups and you're free to ride independently. We do however strongly urge riders to at least ride in pairs. You'll have ride captains supporting you and natural groups will form around them for those wanting some extra support and company. On Day 1 we'll have some cut off times to ensure everyone reaches the ferry port on time.
WHAT SUPPORT IS THERE?
We'll have a mechanic and support van with us each day, they'll travel ahead and be available at coffee and lunch stops and the end of the ride. If you need support on the the route, the ride captains will have basic mechanical tools available. We do recommend that you carry basic tools and equipment.
WHAT BIKE DO YOU RECOMMEND?
A gravel bike is ideal with a minimum tyre width of 38mm (wider tyres are better owing to comfort and tyre pressure). You could do this event on a mountain bike however a gravel bike is best suited.
AND TYRES?
We strongly recommend going tubeless with 40-48 tyre width being ideal. Trails will be mixed terrain so an intermediate tyre is a perfect choice.
HOW TECHNICAL IS THE ROUTE?
Day 1 is pretty straightforward with well made paths and trails for the majority. Day 2 and 3 are mixed terrain with forest roads, bike paths and farmers tracks, but nothing too technical. Day 4 has a few tricky sections of single track, and some climbs and descents where you'll need to show some caution. However these are relatively short in nature so again an intermediate day of riding with a few burst of excitement!.
CAN I BRING A BIKE BOX?
If you are returning home from Paris under your own steam and need a bike box, then yes we can transfer this for you from London to Paris. If you are opting to have your bike returned to London from Paris with us, then please don't bring a bike box. Bikes will be packed carefully using protective blankets.
HOW DOES OUR LUGGAGE GET TO THE HOTELS?
Your luggage will travel ahead every day and be waiting for you at your hotel.
WHERE IS THE START?
The start is in Guildford where we pick up the Downs Link. There are good train links to/from Guildford and London. At the start you'll be greeted by the events team and ride captains. Drop your luggage and collect your rider pack, enjoy a coffee and pastry before hitting the trails.
HOW DO WE GET TO FRANCE?
Once in Newhaven the events team will be there to greet you before we board the ferry to Dieppe. Dinner will be served during the crossing. On arrival in Dieppe it is a short cycle to the hotel. We'll ride as an organised group, led by your ride captains, however it will be dark so lights will be required.
HOW DO I GET BACK FROM PARIS?
You can opt to purchase a Eurostar when you register, from Paris Gare du Nord to London St Pancras on Monday 14 September. There will be one train option around 13:30.
IF I CHOOSE BIKE REPATRIATION TO LONDON, WHERE DO I COLLECT MY BIKE?
Bikes are available to collect at a location close to St Pancras between 15:00 and 16:00 on Monday 14 September.
DO I NEED INSURANCE?
You'll need to organise your own travel insurance for the event as it may NOT be covered under your general holiday insurance. You're also responsible for making sure your bike is insured for the trip.
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS?
You'll require a valid passport and if applicable, visa for travel. Please make sure your passport and relevant visa is within the expiry date. If you require a supporting letter when applying for any visas, please contact info@leadoutevents.com.
WHAT DO I NEED TO CARRY DURING THE DAY?
Be prepared and self sufficient is the golden rule. For convenience a small handlebar bag is ideal for items to be carried on the bike.
